Deadline extended: Nominate your local hero to the Order of Vaughan by Sept. 6
There’s still time to nominate your hometown hero to the City of Vaughan’s 2024 Order of Vaughan! The deadline has been extended to Friday, Sept. 6. This is the highest honour the City may bestow on an individual who exemplifies extraordinary citizenship.
Once the nomination period has closed, the Order of Vaughan Selection Committee will review nominations and recommend successful candidates to Vaughan Council for approval. The 2024 Order of Vaughan will be presented by Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council during an official investiture ceremony later this year.
The Order of Vaughan was created to pay tribute to individuals who have made a meaningful impact on Vaughan’s civic life and dedicated their time and talent to the city’s ongoing success. For 2024, up to 10 nominees may be eligible to receive the award. Since its inception in 2015, 63 remarkable individuals have been invested into the Order.
What are the nomination requirements?
To be eligible, a nominee must be a living person at the time of nomination and have dedicated their time, talent and resources for the betterment of Vaughan. An individual does not need to reside in Vaughan to be eligible. Nominations will not be accepted for staff currently employed by the City or current elected public office holders at the federal, provincial or municipal levels. Self-nominations will also not be accepted. View additional eligibility criteria and the online application package at vaughan.ca/OrderOfVaughan.
The award recognizes leaders within the following categories: accessibility, athletics, arts and entertainment, business, education, environment, equity and diversity, health and wellness, media and communications, not-for-profit, philanthropy, public service, science and technology, and spirituality.
How do I submit a nomination?
To nominate a deserving individual, you must complete a nomination form (PDF) and submit it with supporting documents that speak to the character and accomplishments of the nominee. You must also submit three reference letters describing the impact and achievements of the nominated individual. These letters should be from people with firsthand knowledge and experience with the nominee and can provide sufficient detail about the impact they’ve made on the community.
You are also encouraged to provide supporting materials that help provide background or expand on the achievements and accomplishments of your nominee. These documents can include news articles, reviews, writing samples, products or creations (such as excerpts from a book or academic paper, a musical composition, a painting, etc.). Please ensure you provide supporting materials – not a link to a website or video.
Nomination forms and documents can be submitted by email to orderofvaughan@vaughan.ca or by mail to the Office of the City Clerk, Attention Order of Vaughan, 2141 Major Mackenzie Dr., Vaughan, ON L6A 1T1.
