Vaughan is evolving and growing like never before. It is a place people dream of calling home, starting a business and raising their families.

To ensure staff at the City of Vaughan are well positioned to advance Council-approved priorities and initiatives – including fighting traffic gridlock, keeping everyone safe, and making more housing options available – the administration continues to evolve as well.

Last week, City Manager Zoran Postic unveiled a corporate restructuring designed to do just that by focusing on accountability; delivering on our commitment to create more homes; enhancing, modernizing and transforming service delivery; and empowering staff to achieve Vaughan’s mission of citizens first through Service Excellence.

Under the new organizational structure, there are six main portfolios.

  • Community Services
  • Corporate Services
  • Infrastructure Development
  • Planning, Growth Management and Housing Delivery
  • Public Works
  • Strategic Initiatives

As part of these changes, two dedicated City employees were appointed as Deputy City Managers to round out the Senior Leadership Team – Executive.

Emilie Alderman, Deputy City Manager of Public Works, now leads the following departments: Environmental Services; Parks, Forestry and Horticulture Operations; and Transportation and Fleet Management Services. The first female Deputy City Manager of Public Works in Vaughan’s history, Emilie brings a wealth of experience to the role, previously serving as Director of Environmental Services, which is responsible for providing water distribution, wastewater collection and stormwater management services to Vaughan residents and businesses as well as waste collection services. Emilie is a Professional Engineer who also holds a Master’s Degree in Applied Science.

Michael Genova was appointed Deputy City Manager of a new portfolio called Strategic Initiatives that is responsible for keeping staff informed and involved in co-ordinating City business and implementing Council directives. The team will serve as advisors to the rest of the corporation, helping to enhance decision-making to measure, modernize and transform service delivery. It includes the Office of the City Clerk, and the departments of Communications, Marketing and Engagement, and Economic Development as well as teams dedicated to Inclusion and Community Outreach and Strategic Planning and Policy Co-ordination. Michael previously served as Chief, Communications and Economic Development. Michael holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and a Master of Business Administration.
