‘Fall’ into fun with Vaughan’s recreation programs and aquatics

Summer is slowly winding down, but there is still fun to be had come the fall! Today, the City of Vaughan released its fall recreation program, swim lesson and aquatic leadership course schedules on vaughan.perfectmind.com. Fall recreation programs

Registration for fall recreation programs opens at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24. Programming begins Saturday, Sept. 23 at all community centres and the Vaughan Studios & Event Space. Highlights include:

 

  • Family (parent and child): dance, skating, mindfulness, toddler playtime, making music together, soccer, ball hockey, fitness, badminton, archery, yoga, Pilates and barre.
  • Preschool: dancing, skating, robotics, STEM, acting, hockey, soccer, taekwondo, T-ball, gymnastics, basketball, superhero fitness, Disney-inspired fitness, drawing, Vaughan Playschool kindergarten readiness program specializing in science, math, Italian, Hebrew or French.
  • Children: skating, dancing, acting, STEM, spelling bees, computer programming, chess, French, mindfulness, hockey, tennis, soccer, taekwondo, cooking, drawing, baseball, basketball, volleyball, archery, squash, choir, ukulele, guitar, piano, as well as P.A. Day programs and December Break camps.
  • Youth: skating, interview and resume skills, public speaking, computer programming, musical theatre, cooking, fitness, badminton, basketball, guitar, archery, taekwondo, and a volunteer leadership program that leads to recreation volunteer positions at community centres.
  • Adult: skating, cooking, musical theatre, tennis, pickleball, volleyball leagues, badminton, guitar, belly dancing, Bollywood dancing, ballroom dancing, painting, archery, tai chi, Pilates, squash, Zumba, yoga and barre.
  • Older adult: pickleball, line dancing, Zumba, yoga, tai chi, fitness, Pilates, muscle conditioning and dancing.
  • Inclusion: a day program for adults with disabilities, featuring age-appropriate activities such as dancing, adaptive gymnastics, music, arts and crafts, sports, skating, reading, writing and math.
  • Workshops for all ages: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Channukah and Christmas-themed crafting and pottery workshops for preschoolers; Halloween film making and holiday baking for children; gardening, wreath decorating and how to choose a family pet for adults.

Swim lessons and aquatic leadership programs

Get ready to dive in the pool! Registration for fall swim lessons and aquatic leadership courses opens at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22 and courses start on Saturday, Sept. 23 at all community centre pools, with the exception of the pool at Garnet A. Williams Community Centre, which remains closed due to ongoing renovation.

 

Learn-to-swim programming starts for ages four months old for parents with tots and runs up to levels specifically designed for adult non-swimmers. Training and certification in aquatic leadership courses for ages 13 years and older is aimed at preparing youth for employment as a swim instructor or lifeguard.
