North Maple Regional Park is the City of Vaughan’s biggest park project yet – and work to transform it is well underway! Wondering what’s happening at the park? Here’s the latest …

Family Recreation Area

A new Family Recreation Area is being planned! Guided by three pillars – Restore. Engage. Play. – the area will promote activities related to restoring nature, sharing culture, promoting active living and building community. It is envisioned to include a variety of amenities for all ages and seasons, including playgrounds, water play, a youth zone, shade shelters, boardwalks, pathways, a skating trail, pond lookout, benches, a picnic area, pavilion, gardens, additional parking and year-round washroom facilities.

Check out the area’s concept design, which was recently presented to Vaughan Council, to get a sense of what’s to come. The final design will be completed in 2024 and construction is anticipated to begin in 2025. The Family Recreation Area is anticipated to open for public use in 2026!

Phase 2 Enabling Works (current construction activity)

In April 2018, Council endorsed the vision to develop North Maple Regional Park into a signature 900-acre park with outstanding recreation and culture opportunities. A comprehensive work program is being created to guide the park’s development over the next 10 years and beyond – we’re currently in Phase 2 of the plan.

Phase 2 Enabling Works is now more than 50 per cent complete and construction – which includes site grading, servicing and environmental restoration – is well underway. These efforts are focused on preparing 52 hectares (130 acres) of parkland for future development of new recreational facilities and amenities, including Vaughan’s first cricket field and a major event lawn. An overview of current planning activities is outlined in the North Maple Regional Park Program Update – September 2023.
