June is Recreation and Parks Month – a time to focus on the benefits recreation and parks have on our physical, social and mental health. There are many ways you can get involved and be active!

The City of Vaughan is offering a series of activities throughout June, starting with a kickoff event on Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. until noon at Maple Community Centre (10190 Keele St.). The event will include an official welcome from Mayor Steven Del Duca as well as free activities and giveaways, such as balloon artists, a slime station, glitter tattoos, an ice cream truck offering one free small ice cream cone or slushie per person, and the opportunity to try Zumba, camp activities and pickleball. There will also be booths onsite highlighting some of the City’s departments and the work they do.

Five-dollar registered programs

During June, the City is offering various recreation programs for all ages and abilities for just $5 per program! All proceeds will go towards RecAssist, the City's fee assistance program, which helps subsidize the cost of recreation programs and swim lessons for low-income individuals and families in Vaughan. Programs include:

  • Summer-themed crafting: an art project for youth by local artist Alysha Rocca and a painting workshop for adults (coffee and treats included)
  • Family programs: such as mindfulness and music
  • Vaughan Playschool: summer open house events at Chancellor Community Centre (350 Ansley Grove Rd.) and Vellore Village Community Centre (1 Villa Royale Ave.)
  • Sports: including archery, tennis, badminton and pickleball
  • STEM programs: coding and computer programming, and video game creation
  • Inclusion programs: Serenity Stretch Yoga (yoga and meditation), Board Game Bonanza, Nature’s Palette (outdoor art), bocce (sports) and Flavourful Fun (cooking)
