Place up to six garbage items at the curb during the weeks of Sept. 20 or 27

Double-Up Days are coming back! If you have extra waste to dispose of, this City of Vaughan program allows you to place up to six garbage items at the curb, with no paid tags required. Double-Up Days take place the weeks of Tuesday, Sept. 20 or Tuesday, Sept. 27, depending on your scheduled collection day – keep in mind, these are the last Double-Up Days of the year.

Here are some reminders to keep collection days running smoothly for all!

Large or bulky items, such as mattresses, chairs and toilets, can also be placed curbside, and each piece counts as one item toward the six-item limit. Read the guidelines for setting out large or bulky items for more information.

Remember to place your items at the curb no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before collection and no later than 7 a.m. the day of collection.

All household hazardous waste (such as paint and pool chemicals), electronic waste (such as cellphones and laptops) and batteries are not collected curbside and must be taken to a York Region Waste Depot – the Vaughan location is 130 McCleary Crt.

Construction waste, such as wood, flooring and drywall, are also not picked up curbside but can be taken to the waste depot in Vaughan – fees will apply.

If you’re looking to dispose of large metal items and appliances, such as dishwashers and refrigerators, the City collects these by appointment only on Thursdays. Book an appointment and pay through Service Vaughan or call the City at 905-832-2281. For more information, visit the City’s Appliance and Metal Pickup webpage.

Exchange or purchase a blue box or green bin

The City also sells new blue boxes and green bins. You can purchase them in person at select community centres or online through Service Vaughan and have them delivered right to your door. If your current City-issued blue box or green bin is damaged, sign up to exchange it for a new one at vaughan.ca/ServiceVaughan.

If you’re unsure what items belong in the garbage or what can be recycled, download the Recycle Coach app through the Apple App Store or Google Play to help determine what goes where. The app also provides waste-less tips and a personalized collection schedule with optional alerts on what to put at the curb each week.
