The City of Vaughan is conducting a Stormwater Rate Study to ensure our stormwater management system remains financially sustainable both now and into the future – and we want to hear from you!

The City has more than 1,000 kilometres of stormwater pipes, more than 22,000 catch basins and more than 150 stormwater management ponds that help protect the environment and prevent flooding. Critical operating and infrastructure investments in this system are funded through the annual stormwater charge, which appears on your utility bill once every year.

Through the Stormwater Rate Study, we will review the current rate structure to ensure it’s fair, equitable and financially sustainable for residents, businesses and property owners while achieving the funding necessary to provide reliable stormwater services as Vaughan continues to grow.

What are your thoughts on the current rate structure? What do you know about the projects and programming that the stormwater rate funds? Do you think property-specific characteristics would be beneficial for the City to consider in a future rate structure? There are four ways you can share your thoughts:

1. Take the online survey

Tell us your thoughts by taking an online survey, available now until the end of the day on Friday, Feb. 14.

2. Visit a pop-up event

Learn about the study and speak directly with a member of the project team by stopping by any of the following pop-up events:

  • Sunday, Jan. 19 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Maple Community Centre (10190 Keele St.)
  • Monday, Jan. 20 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Vellore Village Community Centre (1 Villa Royale Ave.)

3. Join our virtual meeting

Participate in our virtual meeting to share your thoughts with the project team on Thursday, Jan. 30 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. via Zoom. Register online to save your spot. The meeting link will be emailed to you before the meeting.

4. Email the project team

Share your thoughts with the project team via email at stormwatercharge@vaughan.ca.

Your input is valuable in helping inform the funding model to ensure our stormwater system is properly financed, future-ready and can continue to safeguard the community, environment, property and water resources!

The study is anticipated to be completed in 2025. The findings of the study will then be presented at a future Committee of the Whole meeting for Council consideration.
