City of Vaughan
Have your say by attending a live virtual Community Meeting

The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) is the largest and most ambitious development project in the City’s history – and the downtown core is transforming quickly. With rapid growth, increased interest in residential developments, an expanding workforce and growing visitor and commuter numbers, the City of Vaughan has initiated an update to the existing VMC Secondary Plan – and your help is needed!

In 2020, the City kicked off this update by collecting public feedback on the issues, strengths and opportunities in the area. In 2021, citizens were able to learn more about those findings and provide further feedback. Now, as the plan progresses, the community is once again invited to have their say. Get involved by attending a live virtual Community Meeting on Tuesday, May 24 at 7 p.m. Attendees will be presented with two land use options that have been developed through the ideas shared during Phase 1 of the study. The live virtual Community Meeting will also include the opportunity to ask the project team and consultants questions about what was presented and what the next steps of the project will be. Additional details and registration can be found at vaughan.ca/VMCPlan.

After the live virtual Community Meeting, a recording of the presentation will be posted on the project webpage at vaughan.ca/VMCPlan. Citizens will have an opportunity to participate in an idea generating exercise to share their preferred land use option. The presentation and idea generating exercise will be available from Wednesday, May 25 until Tuesday, June 14. Input provided will help City staff further refine the priorities of the public.

A Secondary Plan defines all the elements needed for successful development, including new roads and active transportation routes, open spaces and parks, policies to establish land uses and key infrastructure requirements. While the City’s current VMC Secondary Plan provides a strong framework for growth and land utilization, an update is needed to reflect new provincial and regional policies and to ensure the existing planning framework is still relevant.

In addition to public consultation, a number of supporting studies also are underway that will help inform the VMC Secondary Plan Update, including the VMC Parks and Wayfinding Master Plan, the VMC Transportation Master Plan Update and the Integrated Urban Water Plan.

Once complete, this update will result in a revised secondary plan that supports the City’s downtown as a complete community to 2051 and beyond. It will further connect the community while enhancing and enriching the quality of life for those who live, play and work in the area. Further, it also reflects the City’s commitment to fostering active, safe and diverse communities that are environmentally sustainable and inclusive as outlined in the 2018-2022 Term of Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan.
