How do you use Sports Village Park?

If you use Sports Village Park – get involved! The City of Vaughan is conducting a study to better understand how you and your neighbours currently use the park, how you’d like to use it in the future and what new amenities you’d like to see there.

Your input will help guide any future enhancements to the park!

Located at 2600 Rutherford Rd., Sports Village Park is approximately 7.6 hectares (19 acres) in size – roughly the size of four senior soccer fields. It currently has a junior baseball diamond, senior baseball diamond (with lighting), a double bocce ball court and pathways. The site has 157 parking spaces in the parking lot east of Melville Avenue and shares 400 parking spaces with the Sports Village complex. The site also includes a large greenspace to the west and a few small open greenspaces and seating areas throughout the site.

Are more amenities needed to support children’s play, like a playground? Is the park missing spaces to enjoy nature, like a pollinator garden? Have other ideas? Take the survey!

Complete the online survey by Tuesday, Aug. 8 to review, prioritize and comment on potential new amenities.

What is this study?

Before a park can be designed and developed, staff must submit a budget request to Council for their approval during the annual budgeting process. To inform this ask, City staff complete a needs assessment study that includes:

  • an inventory and analysis of current site conditions, community demographics and area needs based on standards set in the 2018 Active Together Master Plan.
  • community input on the park’s current design, use and desired new amenities.

Using this information, City staff will develop cost estimates and submit a budget request to Vaughan Council through the City’s annual budget process. This will dictate what new amenities and features can be added to the park.

What about the Sports Village complex?

The operation of the Sports Village complex and programming offered there are not included in this study – this includes the main building, all parking lots, outdoor volleyball area, skating trail and patio grounds. The area in scope includes the open greenspace, senior baseball diamond and junior baseball diamond.
