Do your kids have plans for the upcoming PA Day on Friday, Feb. 2? If not, we have you covered! The City of Vaughan is offering full-day programming for children aged three to 14 years old at select community centres. Registration is required at vaughan.perfectmind.com.
Programs and camps include:
School’s Out! (for kids aged seven to 12 years old)
Enjoy games, sports, arts and crafts, outdoor play and special events, all while making new friends! Spots are available at the following community centre locations:
- Register for Chancellor Community Centre programs (350 Ansley Grove Rd.)
- Register for Vellore Village Community Centre programs (1 Villa Royale Ave.)
- Register for Maple Community Centre programs (10190 Keele St.)
- Register for North Thornhill Community Centre programs (300 Pleasant Ridge Ave.)
Hands-on Robotics: LEGO® SPIKE™ Essentials (for kids aged six to eight years old)
Using your LEGO® SPIKE™ Essential system, participants will code a set of robots and structures to help solve problems and create stories. They’ll quickly become master builders by using motors, lights and sensors to help navigate, throw a ball and avoid obstacles through challenges brick by brick. Stop Motion Animation (for kids aged seven to 12 years old)
Delivered in partnership with Film Camp in a Box. In this claymation and LEGO® animation workshop, participants, mentored by master filmmakers, will engage in hands-on exploration of the stop motion animation process. Learn set design, script writing and editing, and create your own stop motion animation short film. Location: Rosemount Community Centre (1000 New Westminster Dr.). Register now!
Roblox Game Design: Mario Galaxy (for youth aged nine to 14 years old)
Delivered in partnership with Logic Fusion. Jump into the Roblox Studio to design your own Mario Galaxy-style game, creating brand new worlds you can play in with your friends and family! Build a Mario Galaxy-like 3D platforming game where Mario will have to beat smart enemies, overcome obstacles, and earn power-ups along the way. Location: Garnet A. Cartoon Computer Animation (for kids aged six to 11 years old)
Delivered in partnership with Kids Great Minds, participants will dive into STEAM while learning the basics of animation design; storyboarding; creating short computer-animated cartoons, television shows or movies; and developing logical thinking skills. Location: Rosemount Community Centre (1000 New Westminster Dr.). Register now!
Babysitting Basics (for youth aged 11 to 14 years old)
Learn some must-have babysitting skills before your first job, including: basic first aid, how to respond to an emergency, and dealing with difficult behaviour in a positive way. Build confidence, communication and leadership skills. Location: Garnet A. Williams Community Centre (501 Clark Ave. W.). Register now!
Paint Your Own Pottery: Heart-shaped Dish (for kids aged three to 14 years old)
Delivered in partnership with Mess for Fun, you can create beautiful art on your day off school and paint a one-of-a-kind piece of pottery. Children aged three to six must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Location: Vellore Village Community Centre (1 Villa Royale Ave.) from 10 a.m. to noon. Register now!
