Mayor Bevilacqua highlights Vaughan’s award-winning innovation
New approach to service contracts earns city highest honour from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO)
This statement by Vaughan Mayor, Maurizio Bevilacqua, was issued during a Committee meeting on Sept. 17, 2018. Mayor Bevilacqua highlighted the recent honour earned by the City’s Public Works team, the 2018 Peter J. Marshall Innovation Award.
“The City of Vaughan was recently presented with the 2018 Peter J. Marshall Innovation Award, the highest honour bestowed on a municipality for developing an innovative process to serve the public.
“I would like to congratulate Deputy City Manager of Public Works, Stephen Collins, and his entire team for their outstanding efforts to deliver service excellence to our community.
“With
the goal of optimizing performance, costs and citizen satisfaction, Public
Works restructured the City’s Winter Maintenance and Solid Waste Collection
programs. The redesign of these programs elevates the City’s level of service
excellence beyond industry standards and increases value for our taxpayers’
hard-earned money, placing Vaughan as a stand-out innovator across
municipalities.
“The
Solid Waste Collection initiative is an important example of our continued
efforts to safeguard the health and well-being of our local environment and to
ensure Vaughan remains a leading green city, home to clean and welcoming
neighbourhoods.
“Public
service is more than a job – it is a vocation. That is why each Public Works
employee goes above and beyond the day-to-day work that is expected of them.
From providing quality snow removal services to collecting garbage to keeping
parks clean, the efforts of our Public Works professionals improve our quality
of life.
“I am
proud that Vaughan is being recognized as a leader in public service and I look
forward to continuing to find new innovations that enhance our City.”
