Mayor Bevilacqua launches ninth annual Toy Drive

Donations accepted at any Vaughan community centre, library, fire hall or City Hall

This morning, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua kicked off the City of Vaughan’s ninth annual toy drive at a televised event from Blessed Trinity Catholic Elementary School.  The toy drive supports the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish 2018. Mayor Bevilacqua was featured on CP24 Breakfast.

The Mayor was surrounded by more than 200 children, parents and teachers who performed holiday songs, dances and theatre performances, all hosted in three languages – English, French and Italian – to include Blessed Trinity’s French immersion and International Heritage language programs. All the snacks were made by Blessed Trinity’s students, as part of the in-school chef program. Students prepared and rehearsed for weeks leading up the launch and toys were already overflowing from the donation boxes on site.

With a goal of collecting 15,000 toys this year, all Vaughan residents and businesses are encouraged to generously donate a toy or a gift card to help support the many children, families and neighbours in need of assistance during the Christmas and holiday season. The toy drive encourages donations of new, unwrapped toys for children aged newborn to 18 years of age. Monetary donations, including gift cards and cheques are greatly appreciated and will also be accepted if made payable to “CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish” and mailed to Vaughan City Hall.

Toys and donations may be dropped off at any Vaughan community centre, library or fire hall between Monday, Nov. 19 and Monday, Dec. 6. Contributions can also be made at Vaughan City Hall until Monday Dec. 10. The CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish 2018 distributes new, unwrapped toys and financial donations to registered charitable organizations, social service agencies, faith groups, and community centres across the Greater Toronto Area. These groups serve families of all backgrounds.

QUOTE

“I once again encourage the citizens of Vaughan to open their hearts and help us achieve our goal of collecting 15,000 toys, for the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish 2018. Vaughan is one of the largest contributors of toys and financial assistance to this worthwhile and compassionate effort. Over the past eight years, our community has come together to donate more than 73,000 toys for children. Local citizens understand we have a responsibility to touch the lives of people here at home and beyond. As I reflect on the past 12 months, 2018 has truly been an unprecedented year of kindness, service and giving. The efforts and events of the Spirit of Generosity commitment have raised more than $30 million. It remains my unwavering mission to move this city forward without leaving anyone behind. Together, we can help achieve this by taking part in the ninth annual toy drive.”
