Mayor Bevilacqua to present 2018 Order of Vaughan
Four individuals to be invested
with the City’s highest civic honour at special ceremony
The Honourable Maurizio Bevilacqua, Mayor of the City of Vaughan, will preside
over the Order of Vaughan investiture ceremony on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. at
Vaughan City Hall. The Mayor will bestow the honour on four outstanding citizens
who have played a pivotal role in shaping the city.
The Order of Vaughan inaugural ceremony took place in 2016 to mark Vaughan’s
25th anniversary. The award was created to pay tribute to leaders who have dedicated
their time, talent and treasure to the city’s ongoing success. It recognizes
people within the following categories: arts and entertainment, media and
communications, athletics, health and wellness, business, philanthropy, public
service, education, science and technology, not-for-profit, equity and
diversity, accessibility, environment and spirituality.
Vaughan continues to experience unprecedented growth, thanks in large
part to the trailblazers who have been influential in safeguarding and
elevating the overall quality of life in the city. There are extraordinary transformational
initiatives taking shape that all residents are rallying around. These include,
the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre – the emerging downtown – rising from the
ground, cranes towering over the site of the future Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital
and the opening of Phase One of the new 900-acre North Maple Regional Park –
which will be larger than New York City’s Central Park. As Vaughan moves toward
a more promising future, it is important to recognize those who have been instrumental
in city-building.
QUOTE
“It will give me immense pleasure to present the 2018 Order of Vaughan
to four exceptional individuals who have made a significant contribution to
city-building and played an important role in Vaughan’s success, including:
Maria Castro, Michael DeGasperis, Altaf Stationwala, and Robert Charles Wilson. I proudly launched the Order of Vaughan to mark
the important and historic milestone of Vaughan’s silver anniversary. The Order
of Vaughan is the highest, most prestigious honour presented to those who go
above and beyond to serve our world-class city. I championed the creation of
this new program because exemplary citizenship must be recognized in a genuine,
meaningful and lasting way. Every day I am inspired by the people in Vaughan –
their passion for the community, commitment to building our city and spirit of
generosity. We are blessed to have citizens who devote their energy, enthusiasm
and ideas, representing Vaughan at home and abroad, and who make us proud to
call them our neighbours. Each year, the recipients come from far and wide, and
their talents and experience are diverse, but what unites them is the
dedication to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Thanks to their efforts, we are realizing our full potential and
continuing to make Vaughan the place to be.”
