Mayor Bevilacqua recognizes Hospice Palliative Care Awareness Week
Community looks forward to opening of new state-of-the-art hospice in Vaughan
Mayor Maurizio
Bevilacqua issued the following statement during a flag-raising ceremony
outside Vaughan City Hall today to recognize Hospice Palliative Care Awareness
Week:
“Yesterday,
we recognized Hospice Palliative Care Awareness Week because we know first-hand
the importance of having hospice care in the community.
“Soon,
the doors will open to our new Hospice Vaughan – The Mario & Nick
Cortellucci Hospice Palliative Care Centre of Excellence. This facility is
vital for citizens, front-line health professionals and the future of hospice
palliative-care delivery and service in our growing city.
“As
Chair of Hospice Vaughan’s Better Ending Campaign, I am grateful for the community’s
support to build this state-of-the-art, 10-bed facility, that will further
improve local public healthcare in our city. Thanks to the remarkable
generosity of our donors, I am pleased to report that we reached our campaign
goal of $12 million.
“Everyone
deserves to rest with dignity and compassion during the last stage of life. It
is important that we continue to support the care of our neighbours by
providing a space that people can rely on in their time of need.
“Hospice
and palliative-care staff, and the many volunteers at the hospice, are the
ultimate example of public service. I would like to offer my sincerest
gratitude to those who spend their time and energy on a task that we all know
is not an easy one. I am motivated by all the people in our city who have given
of themselves to the noble cause of taking care of others and doing so with
warmth and compassion.
“I am
grateful for the organizations we have in our city that provide this kind of
service.”
