Vaughan will continue pushing ahead with its city-building initiatives

Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua issued the following statement in response to the 2019 Ontario budget:

“I am glad to see many of the initiatives and commitments contained within today’s Ontario budget will help Vaughan in its efforts to continue driving our city forward.

“Our City and the provincial government have a shared commitment to respecting taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars and delivering core services to our citizens as efficiently as possible.

“I am encouraged by Provincial investments that will have both an immediate positive impact, as well as longer-term commitments that will benefit our community for generations to come.

“Funding for the Yonge North Subway Extension will be a game-changer in our city and will only further complement our already existing Vaughan subway. Transportation and Mobility are key drivers of our recently adopted four-year Service Excellence Strategic Plan and we look forward to working together with all levels of government to help make more transit options for Vaughan residents a reality.

“News that the province will continue to support the Vaughan Business Enterprise Centre validates the exceptional service the City is providing to its many important partners in the business community. This three-year commitment will support Vaughan’s efforts to provide vital business advisory services, as well as the continuation of the very popular Summer Company program, which supports so many of our brilliant young entrepreneurs.

“Igniting economic opportunities remains crucial to our city-building efforts and the outstanding employment growth rate that has made our economy a powerhouse across the Greater Toronto Area and the entire province.

“Higher learning and education can also act as a strong magnet for opportunity in our city and I was pleased to see in today’s budget, entitled Protecting What Matters Most, that the Ontario government shares our enthusiasm for the first university in Vaughan and York Region. Niagara University continues to be a dynamic addition to the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre – our city’s emerging downtown.

“We will continue working with our city-building partners in the provincial government on these, and many other, important issues, to ensure we deliver on our shared vision of advancing Vaughan as one of Ontario’s leading cities.

“Our municipality’s remarkable growth demonstrates what we can accomplish when we work together, and I look forward to continuing our positive working relationship with the Ontario government on our shared priorities for the residents we proudly serve.”
