Mayor Steven Del Duca issued the following statement today after the Province of Ontario announced a $35-million investment to help build new homes in Vaughan:

“I welcome today’s announcement that the Province of Ontario is investing $35 million from the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund for vital city-building infrastructure here in Vaughan. This funding will help build more than 20,000 new homes in Vaughan to support our growing population.

“We are in the midst of a housing affordability crisis, and this is an all-hands-on-deck moment for all leaders. Working to make housing affordable is critically important. Attainable home ownership can’t be something we just talk about, and we simply hope someone will fix it in the future. We must work together with industry leaders and other levels of government to deliver on this shared goal.

“Vaughan is one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities, and we must do everything we can to manage this expansive growth and build a city where everyone can thrive. Ensuring more housing is in reach of more people is a key priority at the City. As Mayor, I'm proud to lead our collective efforts in building a community that accommodates our growing population today, while laying the groundwork for success for the needs of tomorrow.

“I want to extend my appreciation to Premier Ford, Minister Surma and MPP Laura Smith for this significant investment in the city of Vaughan. I look forward to continuing to work together to build a brighter future for our city.”
