Move it, Groove it, Create it at Vaughan Community Centres This Fall

Sept. 16, 2014

The City of Vaughan’s fall recreation program schedule begins Sept. 20 – don’t miss out. Residents are encouraged to register now before their preferred programs are filled.

The Recreation and Culture department offers hundreds of different programs for children and youth. Geared towards varied interests and skills, community centres run lessons in everything from baking and ballet to painting and dance for toddlers to teens. Children who enjoy competing will get a “kick” out of taekwondo and karate lessons, complete with colour belt testing, and gymnastics lessons that offer a progression from junior to senior levels.

Looking for an extracurricular activity for your child? Try a Vaughan Sports basketball, ball hockey, indoor soccer, lifesaving or tennis team. The program (which includes a uniform and swag bag) ends in an exciting intercity championship tournament. If you are a parent of a preschooler, pick from many popular playschools that emphasize reading and math to help prepare them for school.

Vaughan community centres are inclusive and offer programs specifically for children and adults with special needs. There are music and sports courses, day and after-school programs, yoga with parents, and clubs dedicated simply to socializing and hanging out.

For individuals who prefer the water, or want to learn a life skill, swim lessons are available at nine pools across the City. Based on the Lifesaving Society’s Swim for Life program, lessons range from parent and tot to adult, and are conveniently offered seven days a week at various times. Residents in west Woodbridge are encouraged to register for lessons at the Woodbridge Pool while Father Ermanno Bulfon Pool is closed for renovations.
