The new Carrville Community Centre, Library and District Park are coming soon!
Today marks a historic moment in the development of the City of Vaughan’s new Carrville Community Centre, Library and District Park! Members of the media were invited to join Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council along with the Vaughan Public Library Board today at the official ground-breaking ceremony at the future site, located at Thomas Cook Avenue and Valley Vista Drive.
The new multi-use community hub will combine spaces for play, learning, fitness and sports, and further connect the Vaughan community by enriching the quality of life for those who live, work and play in this fast-growing neighbourhood.
Once complete, the community centre and library will include a lane and therapy pool, gymnasium, running track, multi-purpose rooms, teaching kitchen, fitness studios, a community partner space and childcare services. In response to the City’s commitment to sustainable leadership and a low-carbon future, renewable energy sources will help power the new facility through rooftop solar panels, while geothermal heating and cooling will help conserve energy.
Like all other Vaughan Public Libraries, this new location will offer storytime events for families, dedicated study spaces and free wifi, and a collection of books, audiobooks, videogames, learning tools, music and much more. Whether you're a student, entrepreneur, local resident or just visiting, this new space will have something for everyone!
The district park amenities will be fully accessible and will include a playground, water play and splash areas, a skate trail, walking trails, tennis courts, a basketball court, a bike pump track, outdoor event space and more.
As accessibility and inclusivity remain a priority for the City, both the building and park will be designed to surpass minimum accessibility regulations. Additional features will include gender-neutral washrooms, gender-neutral and gender-specific aquatic change facilities and barrier-free access into pools through ramps.
This project reflects the City’s commitment to fostering active, safe and diverse communities that are environmentally sustainable and inclusive as outlined in the 2018-2022 Term of Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan and the 2018 Active Together Master Plan.
