Qualified homeowners will receive a notice in the mail

The City of Vaughan is replacing select water meters in homes and businesses across the community – watch your mailbox to see if your home is included in this initiative.

Through the Water Meter Replacement Program, select meters are being replaced to improve the accuracy of meter readings and further streamline the water-billing process.

Participation in the program is mandatory – and the good news is that there is no cost to you! We have hired a contractor, Neptune Technology Group, to do the replacements.

How will I know if my water meter is getting replaced?

If your water meter is set to be replaced, you will receive a notice in the mail from Neptune Technology Group advising you of the next steps. Within one week of receiving the notice, you must book an appointment with Neptune Technology Group online at watermeterappt.comor by calling 1-800-667-4387 (toll free).

You will need the water meter reference number listed at the top of the notice you received to book an appointment. If you don’t have a reference number, you can look it up using your address at watermeterappt.com.

What should I expect on my appointment day?

At your appointment, a contractor from Neptune Technology Group will need access to enter your home to reach the main water shutoff valve and water meter (typically located in the basement). The contractor will be wearing an identification badge. They will replace the water meter and check that the water meter’s remote is working properly. This work will take between 30 minutes to 90 minutes to complete, during which time your home’s water supply will be temporarily shut off.

You must be home during your appointment to allow access to your water shutoff valve and water meter.

Getting a new water meter has many benefits, including:

  • the ability to identify potential water leaks before they become a larger issue and impact your water bill.

  • improved water meter reading accuracy. New water meters measure water usage more accurately.

  • the ability for the City to do remote water meter readings. No physical visits to your home will be needed to get a reading of your water use, which is more convenient for you and saves City staff time and resources.

Please note: unless you schedule an appointment with the City’s contractor and entry is agreed upon in advance, staff do not enter your home or business to perform any water service. Water meter replacements do not take place without an appointment. Visit the Ministry of Consumer Services website for information on door-to-door sales scams and home services. To make a formal complaint about an unsolicited encounter, contact the Consumer Services Bureau at 416-326-8800 or 1-800-889-9768 (toll free).
