Vaughan Chief Financial Officer and City Treasurer Named New Commissioner, Finance and Regional Treasurer with York Region

Laura Mirabella assumes new role effective June 20, 2018

Following four successful years with the City of Vaughan, Ms. Laura Mirabella, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and City Treasurer, will join the Regional Municipality of York as the new Commissioner, Finance and Regional Treasurer. Her last day at the City will be June 19.

Ms. Mirabella first began with the City in September of 2014 as Director, Financial Planning and Analytics. In this role, Ms. Mirabella was responsible for leading the annual fiscal planning process; the development of fiscal strategies; financial management; controllership policies; and financial and performance reporting.

Entrusted by her colleagues, in October of 2015, Ms. Mirabella was promoted to the position of CFO and City Treasurer where she has been an important member of the City’s Corporate Management Team. City Manager Daniel Kostopoulos highlighted Ms. Mirabella’s record, which includes aligning the City’s annual budget with the 2014-2018 Term of Council Priorities Strategy Map and leading the new development charge (DC) background study, by-law and policy work plan -- important efforts that will help ensure Vaughan continues to grow and intensify in a responsible and sustainable way. Other accomplishments include transforming the budget communications process to include greater stakeholder engagement, and public awareness and understanding of the City’s financial information; implementing a fiscal framework to fund and maintain public services and infrastructure; and ensuring the sound management of tax dollars and long-term financial sustainability.

The City of Vaughan will initiate a formal recruitment process to fill the vacancy.
