Sept. 23, 2013

Locations across the City of Vaughan will open their doors to residents and visitors offering free arts and culture activities in support of Doors Open Vaughan and Culture Days on Sept. 28 and Sept. 29.

Doors Open Vaughan will feature 12 sites in the community chosen for their historical, architectural, cultural and environmental significance including heritage homes and churches, Vaughan City Hall, Hesperus Village, Kortright Centre for Conservation, J.E.H MacDonald House, Magnotta Winery, McMichael Canadian Art Collection, Toronto District Christian High School and the Village Market. Participants will have the opportunity to explore these sites through tours, presentations, exhibits, historic walks and art exhibitions.

Activities include dance performances, art workshops, health and holistic living classes, nature hikes, historic records and artifact displays, theatre, dance and acting classes, film screenings, a pancake brunch and behind-the-scene tours. Activities will be held at various sites within the city and serve to promote and enhance the rich cultural mosaic of Vaughan.

Doors Open and Culture Days are provincial and national celebrations, respectively, which celebrate community heritage, arts, architecture and culture. Both events aim to create access, awareness, excitement and participation in arts and culture within local communities.
