Pool, residential additions, accessory structures, new home and subdivision grading permits now available electronically

The City of Vaughan has added more permit options to its online permit portal to further enable citizens and building industry professionals to apply, track and pay for permits digitally with a secure login. Permits for pools and grading for sheds, home additions and more can now be submitted and approved through the platform at vaughan.ca/DEPermits.

New to the portal is the opportunity to apply for engineering grading permits, including:

  • building an inground pool
  • infill home construction (including re-builds and new homes on vacant lots)
  • new home construction (subdivision)
  • home additions
  • accessory structures like sheds, cabanas, side-door entrances
For pool and residential grading permits, full permit fees are collected at the time of application. For subdivision grading permits submitted in batches, there is an initial fee of $100 per permit that can be paid via the portal and the remaining total for the batch submission can be paid by credit card if the total does not exceed $1,000. Amounts exceeding $1,000 can be paid by cheque and mailed to Vaughan City Hall. For further assistance with permit fees and payments, please call Access Vaughan at 905-832-228 or email depermits@vaughan.ca.

With more people staying home and practicing physical distancing in compliance with Public Health’s recommendations during the global COVID-19 pandemic, enhancing this online permit portal is one of the many ways the City continues to support citizens, businesses and the local economy while working to stop the spread of the virus. The new online permit portal also offers citizens 24/7 access to Vaughan permitting information, creating a seamless, paperless submission process, ensuring city-building opportunities can continue while further supporting the City’s commitment to environmental stewardship during the pandemic and beyond – a priority outlined in the 2018-2022 Term of Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan.

The City continues to monitor evolving COVID-19 developments and implement precautionary measures to further protect the community.
