Vaughan provides day camps pending school closures
Camps offer activities for children aged six to
12 years old
In response to the
pending school closures in Ontario, the City of Vaughan is offering day camps
for children aged six to 12 on Tuesday, Feb. 4, Thursday, Feb. 6 and Friday,
Feb. 7. Parents interested in registering their children for these day camps can
do so online or in person at community
centres. Spots are limited.
Maple Community Centre,
North Thornhill Community Centre and Vellore Village Community Centre will run the
camps from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. A special needs day camp will also be held at
Maple Community Centre.
Camp activities will
include sports, games, arts and crafts and special themes. Outdoor play may
occur depending on weather. Special activities, such as skating, will also be
planned based on community centre amenities and availability.
Quick facts about
Vaughan’s Day Camps:
- Camp is available to kids aged six to 12 years old.
- Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Although there are limited spots available, parents are encouraged to add their child to the waitlist as participation numbers and ratios will be monitored.
- Registration is currently available for Tuesday, Feb. 4, Thursday, Feb. 6 and Friday, Feb. 7, 2020. Additional day camps may be added if required.
- The cost per day is $39 per child. A $10 surcharge is applicable to non-Vaughan residents.
- Fees will be refunded in full for cancellations if there is no school closure (without penalty) or for withdrawals made one day prior to the scheduled camp.
- Withdrawals made on the same day as the camp will be subject to an administrative fee as per the Recreation Services department’s refund policy.
- There is no extended care option available. Parents must drop off their child no earlier than 8:30 a.m. and must pick up their child by 4 p.m.
- Photo identification must be shown at time of pickup.
- Campers should come prepared with weather-appropriate attire for outdoor activities, a lunch, two snacks and a refillable water bottle. All belongings should be labelled. Please note City community centres are nut-free environments.
- On the first day, parents/guardians will be asked to complete a Camper Information Form.

- Recreational skating and shinny hockey – schedules and fees available at vaughan.ca/skate.
- Games Room featuring billiards, foosball, air hockey, Xbox, Wii – free with an annual Youth Membership (drop-in rates also available) – schedules at vaughan.ca/sports.
- Family bowling on Monday and Wednesday evenings at Maple Community Centre – schedules and fees available at vaughan.ca/sports.
- Youth sports (ages 10 to 17 years old) – schedules and fees available at vaughan.ca/sports.
- STEAM Camps at the Civic Centre Resource Library for children aged six to 11. Registration is $40.
