City staff raise almost $42,000 for United Way Greater Toronto

When Vaughan stands united, we can make a positive difference within our community. This rings true for all City of Vaughan staff who came together last year to give back to those most vulnerable in the Greater Toronto Area.

Through the 2022 United Way Campaign, which included a pledge initiative and a variety of all-staff events, City staff raised a total of $41,680 for United Way Greater Toronto! This achievement was announced during a ceremonial presentation at today’s Committee of the Whole (2) meeting.

The 2022 United Way Campaign was led by Sponsor Zoran Postic, Deputy City Manager of Public Works, and Chair Emilie Alderman, Director of Environmental Services. The 2022 United Way Campaign Committee was further supported by a dedicated ambassador team, with representation from each City department. These individuals joined together to lend a hand in collecting donations and co-ordinating campaign events to raise funds.

The 2022 campaign events included:

  • a bake sale.
  • a pumpkin drop event and barbecue lunch.
  • a silent auction.
  • Big Box of Cards sales.
  • candygram sales.
  • Wellness Wednesday exercise classes and activities.
  • and more!

Many staff members also contributed by committing to a payroll deduction. By showing local love, the City’s contributions will help our community be everything it can be for all who live, work and play here.

In 2022, the United Way Greater Toronto funded more than 1,100 programs – providing mental health support, food and shelter, after-school programs and other services – to more than two-million people across the GTA. Visit United Way Greater Toronto’s website to learn more.

QUOTES

“For almost three decades, the generous staff at the City of Vaughan have supported United Way Greater Toronto, an organization that is making a lasting impact in Vaughan and beyond by fighting homelessness, providing equal access to programs and services and empowering people to be agents of positive change. Since 1994, the City has raised more than $1 million to support this worthy organization – including $42,000 last year alone. I want to express my gratitude to the organizers and everyone who participated in this year’s campaign. Whether you dropped a pumpkin, bought a candygram or supported the bake sale, everyone who contributed made a meaningful difference to a wonderful organization doing outstanding work in our community.”

- Mayor Steven Del Duca

“The City of Vaughan is proud to support United Way Greater Toronto – an organization that touches the lives of hundreds of thousands of people across Vaughan, York Region, Peel and Toronto. Every year, City staff are asked to give however they can, and, every year, I am overwhelmed by the incredible response. Whether it’s through a pay stub deduction or attending one of our fundraising events, our staff’s contributions will aid more than 200 community agencies and hundreds of programs and services that help us create sustainable change across the GTA. Thank you to all City staff for giving back to the community and helping to improve lives in Vaughan and beyond.”

- Nick Spensieri, City Manager
