Vaughan’s 10th firehall responds to city’s growing needs
New Vaughan Fire and
Rescue Service Station 7-4 provides full-service emergency response to
surrounding community and beyond
Vital emergency services are now closer to home for
the Kleinburg community. The City of Vaughan, together with Vaughan Fire and
Rescue Service (VFRS), are proud to officially open the City’s 10th firehall –
Station 7-4. Located at 835 Nashville Rd., the new fire station will better
enable firefighters to serve Vaughan's growing population for years to come.
At approximately 10,250
square feet, Station 7-4 is a state-of-the-art building within the
Kleinburg-Nashville Heritage Conservation District. The firehall is designed to
complement heritage aspects of the local community while creating a tailored
work environment for firefighters to effectively operate. An extensive
firefighter recruitment took place in 2019 to increase VFRS staff to support
operation of the new fire station.
Features of the facility include three drive-through bays and living quarters
for the crew on shift. The building meets current Accessibility for Ontarians
with Disabilities Act standards and is designed with LEED® (Leadership in Energy
and Environmental Design) Silver Certification standards. Energy-saving
features include water-conserving plumbing fixtures, high-performance windows
and direct/indirect lighting with occupancy sensors.
This afternoon, to officially
open the station and celebrate its construction, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was
held with Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, Members of Council, VFRS Fire Chief Deryn
Rizzi, City staff and residents from the community. Families interested in
visiting Station 7-4 can drop by without an appointment and receive a tour from
an available firefighter.
VFRS continues to be
recognized in Ontario as a leader in emergency service delivery and received a
100 per cent satisfaction rating in the City of Vaughan’s 2018 Citizen
Satisfaction Survey. Fire Station 7-4 will continue the City’s commitment to
maintain high standards of excellence in providing emergency response services to
the municipality and to create active, safe and diverse communities for all to
enjoy. The inclusion of leading-edge green technologies, the selection of
sustainable products and construction practices also result in a building that
supports and reflects Vaughan’s environmental priorities.
QUOTE
“Vaughan is one of the
safest communities in Canada, largely because of the dedicated team at Vaughan
Fire and Rescue Service who serve with pride and honour. On behalf of the City
and the 335,000 citizens who call Vaughan home, I am pleased to officially open
our 10th firehall – Station 7-4. The building’s design is reflective of the
Kleinburg-Nashville Heritage Conservation District. By incorporating
sustainable features, the station aligns with the City’s commitment to
protecting the environment and building green infrastructure. New and modern concepts
also enable firefighters to effectively operate and continue to provide
unparalleled service to Kleinburg’s growing community. Emergency services are
vital to the well-being of everyone who lives, works and visits our city. Having
Station 7-4 operational today will bring emergency services closer to home and help
ensure the continued safety of our families, neighbours and the public spaces
we use every day.”
