Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council today thanked residents, businesses, schools and City staff for their donations to the City of Vaughan Toy Drive in support of the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish program. The fourth annual toy drive has wrapped up with more than 10,000 toys collected.

“The success of the toy drive speaks to the incredible community support we have in Vaughan for this wonderful annual holiday initiative,” said Mayor Bevilacqua. “Vaughan is a giving community that is built on the values of compassion, generosity and understanding. I want to thank everyone for becoming involved and helping to make children’s holiday wishes come true. Once again we are coming together to support the families who need assistance and helping to create wonderful holiday memories.”

During an appearance on CP24 television, Mayor Bevilacqua also announced a donation of $10,000 to the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish program from money raised at the Mayor’s Gala.

The toy drive began with an official launch on Nov. 13 at St. Cecilia Catholic Elementary School. Local schools, residents and businesses were invited to take part by dropping off new, unwrapped toys for children newborn to 18 years of age at any one of several locations across the City. Since the toy drive began in 2010, almost 30,000 toys have been collected.

This year marks the 47th annual CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish. It is one of the largest distributors of toys to those in need in the Greater Toronto Area. In 2012, the Wish program supported 300,000 individuals through toy and financial assistance.
