What’s open and closed in Vaughan on the holiday weekend

City service changes from Friday, April 15 to Monday, April 18


With many citizens observing holidays this weekend, the City of Vaughan is reminding residents of facility closures, modified hours and alternate programming from Friday, April 15 to Monday, April 18.

Municipal facilities

Most facilities – including Vaughan City Hall and the Joint Operations Centre – remain closed. Essential services, such as fire and emergency response and by-law and enforcement services, continue uninterrupted. Non-essential administrative services will close on Friday, April 15 and resume on Tuesday, April 19.

In line with the Province of Ontario’s decision to lift the majority of COVID-19 public health and workplace safety measures, the City of Vaughan is preparing to reopen City Hall and the Vaughan Animal Shelter to the public effective May 2, 2022.

Community centres and recreational programming

Vaughan community centres will be closed on Friday, April 15 and Sunday, April 17. Fitness classes, recreational/length swimming and aquafitness on those days will be cancelled. Programs and services on Saturday, April 16 and Monday, April 18 will run as scheduled.

Vaughan Public Libraries

All Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) branches will be closed on Friday, April 15, Sunday, April 17 and Monday, April 18. The libraries will be open on Saturday, April 16 during per regular business hours. Please note, Maple Library is closed for renovations until April 26. Waste collection

There will be no waste collection service on Friday, April 15. Collection will be moved by one day to Saturday, April 16. Vaughan Animal Services

The Vaughan Animal Shelter remains closed to the public. Appointment-only adoption and pet recovery services are unavailable on Friday, April 15, Sunday, April 17 and Monday, April 18. These services will be available on Saturday, April 16. Citizens can purchase pet licensing tags online at any time through Service Vaughan. For more information, visit vaughan.ca/AnimalServices. 

Access Vaughan

The City’s contact centre will be closed from Friday, April 15 to Monday, April 18. However, a live agent will be available to respond to municipal emergencies.
