The last long weekend of the summer is nearly here! As you prepare, the City of Vaughan is reminding everyone of facility closures, modified hours and alternate programming on Monday, Sept. 4. Here is all you need to know to plan ahead so you can spend quality time with family, friends and loved ones.

Municipal facilities

Most facilities – including Vaughan City Hall – will be closed on Monday, Sept. 4, reopening on Tuesday, Sept. 5. Essential services, such as fire and emergency response and by-law and enforcement services, will continue uninterrupted.

Community centres and recreational programming

Vaughan community centres will be closed on Monday, Sept. 4 and will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 5. There will be no recreation programs, summer camps, swim lessons or drop-in recreational activities on Labour Day. Programs and services will run as scheduled on Saturday, Sept. 2 and Sunday, Sept. 3

Labour Day is the last day to enjoy the Thornhill Outdoor Pool this year. The pool will operate that day on holiday hours from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for recreational and length swimming and aquafitness classes. Pre-registration and pre-payment is available for convenience at vaughan.perfectmind.com.

For more information, including a list of recreation programs and activities available, visit vaughan.ca/recreation. If you require assistance registering, call Service Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or email Recreation Services at rec@vaughan.ca

Vaughan Public Libraries

All Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) branches will be closed on Monday, Sept. 4 and will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 5, during regular business hours. To view the hours of operation at all branches, visit vaughanpl.info

You can still have fun at home with VPL! With an internet connection and a VPL library card, you can enjoy many free online resources available through VPL’s website, including access to eBooks and eAudiobooks, films and television programs, music streaming services, e-learning courses, bilingual materials and more.

Waste collection

There is no waste collection on Mondays, so waste collection for the week of Sept. 4 will not change. Please have your waste set out by 7 a.m. on your regular collection day.

You can register online to purchase garbage tags, blue boxes and green bins and exchange broken City-branded bins through Service Vaughan. Download the Recycle Coach app through the Apple App Store or Google Play for a personalized collection schedule, custom pick-up reminders and the “What Goes Where?” search tool. For the complete curbside collection schedule for 2023, visit vaughan.ca/WasteCalendarFor more information on all things waste in Vaughan, visit vaughan.ca/waste.
