Is there someone in your life who inspires you to give back to the community? A person who goes above and beyond to make a positive difference? If this sounds like a friend, colleague or neighbour of yours, nominate them for the Order of Vaughan!

The City of Vaughan is accepting nominations for the 2023 Order of Vaughan, the highest honour that can be bestowed on an individual who exemplifies extraordinary citizenship.

The award was created to pay tribute to individuals who have made a meaningful impact on Vaughan’s civic life, and dedicated their time and talent to the city’s ongoing success. In its first year, which coincided with the City’s 25th anniversary, 25 recipients were invested into the Order. In subsequent years – and for 2023 – up to 10 nominees may be eligible to receive the award. Since its inception in 2015, 58 remarkable individuals have been invested into the Order.

The 2023 nomination period will run until Friday, Sept. 1. Once closed, the Order of Vaughan Selection Committee will review nominations and recommend successful candidates to Council for approval. The 2023 Order will be presented by Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council during an official investiture ceremony later this year.

The award recognizes leaders within the following categories: arts and entertainment, media and communications, athletics, health and wellness, business, philanthropy, public service, education, science and technology, not-for-profit, equity and diversity, accessibility, environment and spirituality. 

To be eligible, a nominee must be a living person at the time of nomination and have dedicated their time, talent and resources for the betterment of Vaughan. An individual does not need to reside in Vaughan to be eligible. Nominations will not be accepted for staff currently employed by the City of Vaughan or current elected public office holders at the federal, provincial or municipal levels.
