Every month, the City releases popular questions received and responded to by Access Vaughan in a series called ‘You Asked, We Answered.’ Below are the top five inquiries received in March.
1. How do I purchase a fitness membership?
An adult or older adult fitness membership can be purchased online at vaughan.perfectmind.com. Student fitness memberships are not available online as proof of student ID is required upon purchase. To purchase a student fitness membership, complete a Vaughan Fitness Membership Application (PDF) and bring the form to your local community centre to process. Please note, signed parental consent is mandatory for youth ages 13 to 17 years old. For details, visit the City’s membership information webpage.
2. Where do I report garbage or litter in parks and other public spaces?
Keeping Vaughan’s parks and trails clean is a team effort. For the safety and well-being of everyone in the community, including front-line staff, littering and dumping are prohibited under the Dumping By-law 103-2020 (PDF). Individuals found dumping their household garbage are subject to a maximum fine of $5,000 per offence. If you witness illegal dumping or littering, please report it to Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or accessvaughan@vaughan.ca. You can also report litter online via Service Vaughan – get started at vaughan.ca/ServiceVaughan.
3. How do I exchange a damaged City-issued blue box or green bin?
The City offers free blue box and green bin exchanges for damaged City-issued bins. Simply sign up online to exchange your broken blue box or green bin for a new one at vaughan.ca/ServiceVaughan under the “Garbage and Recycling” section. From there, you will be directed to log in to your account or register for an account in order to sign up for the bin exchange. Once a scheduled exchange is confirmed, ensure the damaged bin is placed out at your doorstep on the day of your delivery as the City sends these bins to be recycled into new products. The City of Vaughan logo must be on the bin to be eligible for a free exchange. No-charge replacements are only available through Service Vaughan.
4. How do I renew my business licence?
Citizens have several options for submitting licence renewal applications, depending on the licence or permit type. For stationary businesses, you can now apply for and renew your licence online on the Licensing Portal. For all business licences and permits, you can also apply by mail, drop-box or email – see each business licence page for more information. For a list of all City licences and permits, visit vaughan.ca/BusinessLicensing.
5. What do I do if I didn’t receive my interim property tax bill?
The City of Vaughan sends out two regular tax bills a year: interim and final. Contact Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or accessvaughan@vaughan.ca immediately if you have not received your tax bill. Failure to receive a tax bill does not exempt property owners from paying taxes and any penalties incurred for late payment. To learn more, visit vaughan.ca/PropertyTax.
