The Thornhill Outdoor Pool opens on June 17

Summer is almost here, which means it’s nearly time to dive back into the outdoor pool! Starting Saturday, June 17, the City of Vaughan’s Thornhill Outdoor Pool, located at 26 Old Yonge St., opens for the summer on a modified schedule. Join us on opening day to enjoy music, water games and free freezies (while supplies last)!

For the remainder of June, the City’s outdoor pool will offer recreational swimming on weekends only from 12:45 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The pool will open daily starting on Canada Day, Saturday, July 1, and operate on a holiday schedule. The full schedule takes effect on Sunday, July 2 through to Monday, Sept. 4, and includes designated times for recreational, length and parent and tot swims as well as aquafitness classes.

Plan your swim!

Pre-registration and pre-payment are available for your convenience one week in advance of all scheduled swims at vaughan.perfectmind.com. Limited spots will be available for walk-ins prior to the start of a recreational activity.

The Thornhill Outdoor Pool is cashless. Debit, credit or cheque are the only acceptable forms of payment. For schedules and fees, visit vaughan.ca/swim.

The facility features a 30-metre, five-lane swimming pool and accessible shallow water wading pool with beach entry. The family changeroom will be closed for the season due to ongoing maintenance.

Thornhill Outdoor Pool ‘Water Adventures’ summer camp

Two unique summer camps are being offered at Thornhill Outdoor Pool this summer:

Junior Lifeguard Camp (for ages seven to 12 years old)

Dive in and learn how lifeguards train: practice swimming strokes, first aid situations and rescues through friendly competition in an environment that mixes work with play and focuses on personal-best achievement. Throughout the summer, track your progress collecting stickers from the Canadian Lifesaving Society for your ‘Junior Lifeguard’ journal, and work towards completing all your Swim Patrol levels: Rookie/Swimmer 7, Ranger/Swimmer 8, Star/Swimmer 9 and Bronze Star/Swimmer 10.

Train to be a lifeguard (for ages 12 to 15 years old)

Develop the knowledge, judgment, first aid and fitness skills required for future aquatic leadership courses and jobs! Practice and perfect your swimming strokes and rescue situations through wet and dry co-operative games and learning activities. Make new friends as you work in teams to problem solve through mock lifesaving scenarios you could face in real life. Throughout the summer, you’ll work towards completing the Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid awards. Pre-requisite: Bronze Star/Swimmer 10.

Limited spots are left! For details and direct links to registration, visit vaughan.ca/camps.
