Improving local parks and play spaces – for you!

Parks fall

Get ready to run, play, swing and slide at one of our local parks or playgrounds this fall – many of which have been recently revitalized! 

 

The City of Vaughan continues to expand and make improvements to parks, playgrounds, sports fields, sports courts, splashpads, walking paths and more across the community. This is all to create welcoming, accessible and inclusive outdoor zones that safely bring residents together and foster physical activity. 

 

Below are some City parks that have been recently enhanced or are currently undergoing improvements:

 

WARD 1

Playground reconstruction is underway at Killian-Lamar Parkette (108 Mathewson St.) with completion anticipated by the end of the year. 

 

Work progresses at North Maple Regional Park (11067 Keele St.)! The park’s driveway (Vaughan CARES Way) has been reconstructed and expanded to include a second park entrance with access to Keele Street, a new traffic signal at the park’s north entrance has been installed, approximately four kilometres of new pathways have been created, a six-metre-wide accessible multi-use trail on the perimeter of the new road has been built, and pond and wetland restoration is now complete.

 

WARD 2

Construction of a stormwater management pond is expected to begin later this fall in Rainbow Creek Park (5450 Highway 7), in addition to reconstructing and relocating the tennis courts following work on the pond. 

 

Playground reconstruction will begin this fall at Parwest Parkette (74 Beechnut Rd.)

 

Pathway improvements are underway, and a shade structure is being replaced at Crofter’s Park (225 Crofters Rd.)

 

Work to renew the basketball court at Wilson Century Theatre Park (20 Milano Ave.) is underway. 

 

The City’s second primary off-leash dog park is currently under construction at Mackenzie Valley Park (5851 Major Mackenzie Drive) with an anticipated completion by mid-November. This new park will feature two fenced compounds for large and small dogs, a paved parking lot, shade structures, an accessible, mulched play surface and a large grass area for exercise. 

 

WARD 3

Playground improvements are underway at Anthony Locilento Park (351 Velmar Dr.)

 

New playground equipment and a new shade structure is coming to Blue Willow Square (99 Blue Willow Dr.)

 

The playground replacement at George Stegman Park (460 Aberdeen Ave.) is underway and is scheduled for completion by late 2024. 

 

WARD 4

The trail underpass in Langstaff Park (2001 Langstaff Rd.) will reopen for public use later this year. 

 

Tennis court reconstruction has begun at Southview Park (1 Southview Dr.), Ohr Menachem Park (55 Autumn Hill Blvd.) and Mosswood Park (641 Thornhill Woods Dr.)

 

One tennis court at Le Parc Park (172 Connie Cres.) is being converted to four dedicated pickleball courts, set to open later this fall. 

 

Work continues at Wood Valley Park (2 Marc Santi Blvd.), including a new soccer field, baseball diamond, park plantings and play areas, in addition to relocating the parking lot and enhancing the onsite stormwater management system. The existing playground remains open for use.

 

WARD 5

Playground replacements have been completed at Bathurst Estates Park (99 Campbell Ave.), Worth Park (270 Worth Blvd.), Jean Augustine District Park (101 Westmount Blvd.), Winding Lane Park (580 York Hill Blvd.), Dufferin District Park (1441 Clark Ave.) and Gilmore Park (60 Gilmore Cres.). 

 

Playground reconstruction is underway at Promenade Green Park (25 Carl Tennan St.) and Mill Arbour Park (20 Mill Arbour Lane), and is scheduled to wrap up later this year. 

 

The improved park features at Gallanough Park (21 Springfield Way), including the pathway, fitness equipment and shade structure, are anticipated to open by late October. 

 

The next phase of construction at the Concord Thornhill Regional Park (299 Racco Pkwy.) off-leash dog area will begin in October. Work includes adding pathway lighting and asphalt paving to improve accessibility.
