Recreation programs start on Jan. 6
It may be cold outside, but the City of Vaughan has plenty of activities to keep you busy, active and warm all season long! Winter recreation programs
Registration for winter recreation programs and March Break camps opens at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30. Programming begins Saturday, Jan. 6 at all community centres and the Vaughan Studios & Event Space. Highlights include:
- Family (parent and child): bootcamp, badminton, music, painting, Zumba, baby yoga and singalongs and Valentine’s Day themed workshops
- Preschool: arts and crafts, drama, ballet, gymnastics, karate, soccer, T-ball, STEM and Vaughan Playschool kindergarten readiness series (math, reading, writing, science, French, Italian and Hebrew)
- Children: anime, cartooning, chess, archery, squash, piano, guitar, dance, gymnastics, French, cooking/baking, taekwondo, Minecraft, volleyball and tennis
- Youth: weight training, badminton, bootcamp, cooking, guitar, money management, painting, email etiquette and computer programming, plus a virtual volunteer leadership program that leads to recreation volunteer positions at community centres
- Adult: ballroom, belly and Bollywood dancing, guitar, group personal training, meal planning, pickleball, painting and Vaughan Sports Volleyball League featuring an end-of-session tournament
- Older Adult: chair fitness and yoga, line dancing, pickleball, arthritis and osteoporosis fitness, tai chi, qigong and Zumba
- Inclusion: social and life skills, dance, gymnastics, sports, cooking, private music and education lessons and a social club for adults with Down syndrome
The City is also offering learn to skate lessons for all ages, PA Day programs and March Break Camps, Family Day crafting and fitness programs, cooking, nutrition, first aid, dance and educational classes at the Vaughan Studios & Event Space and City Playhouse Academy musical theatre classes, featuring an end-of-session stage production.

Swim lessons and aquatic leadership programs
Get ready to dive in the pool! Registration for winter swim lessons opens at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28 and courses start on Saturday, Jan. 6 at all community centre pools, except for the pool at Garnet A. Williams Community Centre, which remains closed due to ongoing renovations. Registration for aquatic leadership courses is open and ongoing.
Learn-to-swim programming starts for ages four months old for parents with tots and runs up to levels specifically designed for adult non-swimmers. Training and certification in aquatic leadership courses for ages 13 years and older is aimed at preparing youth for employment as a swim instructor or lifeguard.
