This November, the City of Vaughan will host two Remembrance events to commemorate the brave Canadians who risked – and, in many cases, lost – their lives during times of war, conflict and peace.

You are invited to join Mayor Steven Del Duca, Members of Council, City staff and veterans to honour and remember Canadian service members, past and present, at a Remembrance month ceremony at Vaughan City Hall, 2141 Major Mackenzie Dr., on Friday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m.

Following the ceremony, you may share your thoughts of remembrance and messages of peace on the City’s poppy wall and view a historical exhibit, titled Defined by Duty, which pays tribute to the wartime experiences of people from Vaughan and York Region. The exhibit will be on display at City Hall until Friday, Nov. 15 and online at vaughan.ca/RemembranceMonth for one year.

You are also invited to attend a Remembrance Day service on Monday, Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the Woodbridge Cenotaph (80 Wallace St.). Refreshments will be provided at the Woodbridge Memorial Pool and Arena (5020 Hwy 7) following the service. Visit vaughan.ca/events for more information.

QUOTE

“During Remembrance Month, we honour the brave Canadians who have served, and those who continue to serve, our great nation. Our veterans fought with unwavering courage, for a cause far greater than themselves, and Remembrance Day is our pledge to never forget their sacrifices. Their selfless acts have gifted us the freedom we enjoy today, and we must never take that for granted. The City of Vaughan’s Remembrance month ceremony on Nov. 1 will stand as a tribute to the heroes who risked everything for our country, and a reminder that their legacy lives on in every moment of peace we cherish. Lest we forget."

- Mayor Steven Del Duca
