City of Vaughan Hosts Second Annual Nowruz Celebration
On March 25, the community gathered at Vaughan City Hall to mark the beginning of spring at the City of Vaughan’s second annual Nowruz celebration. This event featured greetings from Mayor Steven Del Duca and various traditional musical and dance performances.
“It was wonderful to see so many friends and neighbours attend the City of Vaughan’s second annual Nowruz event at City Hall. The celebration was filled with captivating performances and delicious food,” said Mayor Del Duca. “As we mark the arrival of spring, let us take some time to reflect on the past year and look towards a bright future. Happy Nowruz!”
Nowruz, also known as the Persian New Year, marks the arrival of spring and unites communities around the world. This event honoured the rich cultural heritage of the many communities that celebrate Nowruz, including Iranian, Afghan, Azerbaijani, Tajik, Kurdish and other Central Asian peoples, as well as members of the Zoroastrian, Bahá’í and Ismaili faiths. It also recognized their significant contributions to Vaughan and beyond.
A Haft Sin table display, featuring traditional and symbolic items for Nowruz, is available for visitors to view at City Hall until April 3.
