Everyone is invited to the City’s Black History Month event tonight!
The City of Vaughan invites everyone to attend this year’s Black History Month event tonight, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at City Hall (2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.).
Black Canadians and communities have been vital in shaping Canada’s heritage and identity. The City has proclaimed February as Black History Month, which provides an opportunity to reflect, learn and educate residents on the experiences, contributions and achievements of Black Canadians and the many diverse Black communities.
This year’s event will feature:
- Master of Ceremonies – Andria Case, Anchor/Videojournalist for CTV News Toronto
- official remarks from Mayor Steven Del Duca
- an African Ancestral Acknowledgement and Black National Anthem performed by Jaylah A’Drianna Hall, visual and spoken word artist, published writer, and the CEO of The Cre8tor House
- a Pouring of Libations led by Lee Miller from the York Region Alliance of African Canadian Communities
- a keynote address from Dr. Emilie Jabouin, a multi-disciplinary scholar, dance artist and founder of Do Gwe research, performance and production company
- an African Talking Drum performance by Hi-Life, a local African music, percussion and orchestra group
- an Afro-Caribbean dance by DOAHL Academy
- Black-owned community booths
