Participate in an online session and provide input until Jan. 8
The revitalization of Maple Community Centre continues! Renovations already completed include a fully modernized library branch, redesigned reading spaces, an outdoor reading garden, new recreation activity rooms, a barrier-free washroom, updated fitness change rooms and more.
And the discussion continues! As part of the City of Vaughan’s Maple Community Centre Feasibility Study, we’ve heard what the community would like to see:
- a transformed pool
- a renewed arena
- new recreation activity spaces
- new accessible bathrooms
- an upgraded cycling room
- clear wayfinding signage
- an updated fitness centre
We want your input – what proposed amenities are you most excited to see? What improvements are you hoping this revitalization will provide? Visit vaughan.ca/MapleReno to view a recorded video presentation to learn more about the project and provide feedback. Comments and questions can be emailed directly to the project team at MapleReno@vaughan.ca until Sunday, Jan. 8.
Your input will help inform the study report, which will outline proposed amenities, construction costs, and more. This report will be completed in 2023.
ABOUT THE FEASIBILITY STUDY
The Maple Library and Community Centre, located at 10190 Keele St., is the City’s largest community centre at approximately 148,000 square feet in size. The arena was built in 1974, with the library and community centre following in 1991. It was designed as a full-service community centre, complete with a pool, arena, fitness areas, gymnasium, bocce courts, game rooms and a bowling alley. In 2004, an expansion was completed to include fitness rooms, activity rooms and an art space.
In 2017, the City completed an assessment of Maple Library and Community Centre, which provided recommendations for repairs and upgrades. Due to the facility's age, it also required many updates, improved space layouts and functionality, sustainability upgrades, accessibility enhancements and improvements in energy use.
The Maple Community Centre Feasibility Study aligns with the Active Together Master Plan (ATMP) 2018 Review and Update (May 2018) (PDF) in its recommendation to renew and revitalize existing libraries and community centres. The ATMP guides the planning of recreation and library facilities within the City of Vaughan. It builds on the City’s foundational documents, including the City’s Official Plan and Green Directions Vaughan.
