Join us to light the Menorah!
This holiday season, the Vaughan community will come together once again to observe Chanukah. Join Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council today at 4 p.m. for the annual Menorah Lighting Ceremony at City Hall (2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.)!
Rabbi Mendel Kaplan, founder and spiritual leader of Chabad Flamingo, will preside over the festival of lights ceremony, which will also include a performance by the Shmuel Zahavy Cheder Chabad Boys Choir.
As part of the 2023 Chanukah celebrations, the City of Vaughan is lighting a second menorah in solidarity with cities and towns across Canada and around the world where residents cannot participate in community-wide festivities. Today's occasion is another opportunity for Vaughan to continue standing shoulder-to-shoulder with our Jewish community and stare down intolerance together. There is no space for anti-Semitism in Vaughan – or anywhere else.
Chanukah is an eight-day holiday celebrated each year by people of the Jewish faith. It is observed to commemorate the rededication of the Temple of Jerusalem.
