NOW OPEN: Gallanough Park!
The City of Vaughan is pleased to officially reopen Gallanough Park for the Ward 5 community to enjoy!
Celebrations were held this morning at the neighbourhood park with Mayor Steven Del Duca, Members of Council, Francesco Sorbara, Member of Parliament for Vaughan—Woodridge, and local residents.
To make Gallanough Park better for the community and ensure it can be enjoyed for generations to come, the City completed extensive renovations to revitalize the playground, improve drainage and mitigate future flooding in the area.
Gallanough Park now features:
- a new games table with seating
- a new shade structure with seating areas
- a new playground and ground-play features with accessible ramps and a wheelchair glider
- accessible engineered wood fibre safety surfacing
- a new swing area with an accessible swing seat
- new accessible walkways with upgraded lighting and furnishings
- new outdoor fitness equipment at five fitness stations throughout the park
- new pollinator gardens
The City received $870,937 from the federal government through the Canada Community-Building Fund to help complete these upgrades.
In addition, the City also completed stormwater management work to help alleviate flooding adjacent to and north of the park during heavy rainfall. This included constructing a new underground stormwater management facility in Gallanough Park, building a storm relief sewer on Arnold Avenue, and installing an overland stormwater relief path at Tanjo Court and Springfield Way. The City received $1,285,206 from the federal government through the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund and $6.1 million from the Canada Community-Building Fund.

“Infrastructure has the power to bring communities together and, also, to mitigate danger. The federal government is proud to invest in this project in the City of Vaughan (Thornhill) that achieves both outcomes by adding new features to Gallanough Park, including accessible swings, walkways, and a new underground stormwater management facility that will help alleviate flooding.”
