The City of Vaughan hosted its annual Black History Month event on Feb. 22 to celebrate Black Canadians and communities that have been vital in shaping Canada’s heritage and identity.

“Thank you to everyone who came and recognized the incredible contributions of Black Canadians at the City’s annual Black History Month event,” said Mayor Steven Del Duca. “It provided us with an opportunity to celebrate the impact their culture and heritage has had here in Vaughan and beyond. It was an afternoon of memorable performances and delicious food. It was also a time to learn about their complex history, cultural diversity and rich traditions. Thank you once again to everyone who made this event a success and happy Black History Month.”

The event featured official remarks, Afro-Caribbean and urban dances, drum performances and a variety of Black-owned and Black-led businesses, organizations and creatives that showcased their work and engaged with the public.

The City proclaims February as Black History Month – an opportunity to reflect, learn and educate residents on the experiences, contributions and achievements of Black Canadians and the many diverse Black communities.
