Grow Zones
In taking the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge, the City committed to identifying opportunities for revised mowing programs and planting pollinator-friendly plants. Vaughan has embarked in identifying Grow Zones which will be left as natural enhancement areas. Natural enhancement areas will not be mowed but left with tall grass and plants. The City will continue to identify priority Grow Zone sites and are developing signs to promote this initiative.
Benefits of Grow Zones:
The City of Vaughan protects our water supplies by implementing the Credit Valley, Toronto and Region and Central Lake Ontario (CTC) Source Protection Plan (Plan). The Plan was created following the Walkerton incident of 2000, that contaminated the drinking water of the community’s municipal well.
The NHN is represented on Schedule 2 of the Vaughan Official Plan (VOP 2010).

In honour of National Pollinator Week – which has been proclaimed from Monday, June 16 to Sunday, June 22 – the City of Vaughan is encouraging you to get involved
Next Steps
In December 2019, Council adopted the new 2019 Green Directions Vaughan and now it’s time for the City to demonstrate how we lead and how we operate to create a sustainable and resilient Vaughan. Throughout 2019 and beyond, the City will take the following steps to guide Vaughan to help maintain a healthy natural environment, vibrant communities and a strong economy:
What's Our Green Direction?
Keeping Our Community Clean
Every year in April, in honour of Earth Day, residents in Vaughan come together to take part in the City of Vaughan's 20-Minute Makeover community litter cleanup. As part of the City’s effort to protect the environment for future generations, everyone must do their part to keep their neighbourhood, streets and parks clean and litter-free.
