The City of Vaughan is offering complimentary drop-in leisure activities at community centres and parks across Vaughan from June 1 to 30 in support of the provincial Recreation and Parks Month.

New this year is a 30-day fitness challenge encouraging residents to stay physically active throughout the month and track their activities for a chance to win prizes.

Recreation and Parks Month is geared to all ages, abilities and interests. Highlights of this year’s initiative include:

The City of Vaughan is celebrating National Public Works Week by inviting residents to attend the annual Public Works Day event on Saturday, May 25. National Public Works Week from May 19 to 25 is intended to highlight the essential services public works professionals provide to residents.

Vaughan’s recent entry in a competition showcasing excellence in Geographic Information System (GIS) technology has resulted in a 2013 People’s Choice Award. The City’s ‘Vaughan Viewer’ was given a provincial award for Best MApp (Maps and Applications) at Be Spatial, an annual event held by the Urban and Regional Information System Association (URISA).

The City of Vaughan recently received a grant from Public Safety Canada’s Joint Emergency Preparedness Program (JEPP) to cover up to 45 per cent of the cost of two Digital Vehicular Repeater Systems (DVRS) for Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service.
