Vaughan Celebrates the Season with 24th Annual WinterFest

Thousands of Vaughan residents and visitors celebrated the winter season at the City of Vaughan’s 24th annual WinterFest held at the North Thornhill Community Centre on Sunday, February 10.

Presented by TD and event sponsor CN, this year’s WinterFest featured free stage entertainment at the outdoor amphitheatre, the Tim Hortons Midway Zone, a new video gaming zone, interactive IceZone, face painting, art, opera and pizza-making workshops, displays and much more.

Vaughan Celebrates Chinese New Year and the Year of the Snake

The City of Vaughan has partnered with the Federation of Chinese Canadians in York Region to host a special Chinese New Year celebration this Sunday, February 17 from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. at Vaughan City Hall. The official welcome will take place at 2 p.m.

City’s 2013 Budget Balances Service Levels And Financial Sustainability

Vaughan Council unanimously approved the City’s 2013 Operating and Capital Budgets at a Special Meeting of Council on Monday, February 11. A total of $238 million has been allocated for services and City operations and $58 million for capital improvements.
 
The residential tax increase for the City of Vaughan for 2013 is $32 or $2.67 per month on an average home assessed at $517,000, an increase of 2.69 per cent.

City of Vaughan Investigates Unauthorized Use of Twitter Account

The City of Vaughan’s investigation into an inappropriate message broadcast from the City’s corporate Twitter account has concluded that the incident was due to the actions of an unauthorized user.

The City regrets that the tweet was posted and apologizes to our followers. The City has contacted Twitter and is awaiting a response to determine if this unauthorized access can be further investigated. 

City of Vaughan Prepared for Winter Storm

Snow clearing crews at the City of Vaughan are ready to respond to the forecasted winter storm that is expected to deliver significant amounts of snow.
 
Vaughan’s Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining more than 2,000 lane kilometres of road, and the City's Parks & Forestry Operations Department is responsible for winter maintenance on the City's 1,000 kilometres of sidewalks.

Vaughan Announces New Commissioner of Legal & Administrative Services

The City of Vaughan welcomes MaryLee Farrugia as its new City Solicitor and Commissioner of Legal & Administrative Services. Starting February 7, 2013, she will serve as senior legal advisor to City Council and the Corporation, and oversee the Legal Services, Real Estate, Clerk's, and Enforcement Services Departments.

“On behalf of the residents of Vaughan, I am very pleased to welcome MaryLee Farrugia to the City,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “I look forward to her contributions to the City.”

Spring and Summer Recreation Guide Delivered This Weekend

The City of Vaughan’s 2013 Spring & Summer Recreation Guide will be delivered to Vaughan homes by January 31. Included are free fitness, swim and sports passes found in the Your Community section of the guide.
 
The award–winning publication – recipient of the 2012 Parks and Recreation Ontario Award for Innovation – features leisure opportunities for preschoolers to older adults.

Vaughan Special Council Meeting Scheduled to Approve Draft 2013 Budget

The City of Vaughan has scheduled a Special Council Meeting on Monday, February 11 at 7 p.m. to approve the Draft 2013 Budget and 2014-2016 Plan. Following a series of six public budget meetings, the Finance and Administration Committee has completed  discussions on the budget presentations, outlining the framework for current and future funding requirements.

The Draft 2013 Budget proposes $238 million for services and City operations, and $59 million for capital improvements.
