The City of Vaughan’s third annual Tamil Heritage Month and Thai Pongal celebration brought the community together on Jan. 18 to honour the richness of Tamil art, heritage and culture.

“I was pleased to see so many people come out and enjoy the City of Vaughan’s third annual Tamil Heritage Month and Thai Pongal event,” said Mayor Steven Del Duca.

“It was a memorable evening filled with incredible food and performances that honoured the traditions and culture of the Tamil people. I want to thank the Vaughan Tamils' Heritage and Cultural Organization for their hard work and dedication to help make this celebration a truly special occasion.”

Festivities included greetings from Mayor Del Duca, vibrant cultural performances, and a traditional Tamil dinner.

Canada is proud to be home to one of the largest Tamil populations in the world, and, in January, the City honours the many contributions that Tamil Canadians have made and continue to make to Vaughan.
