QUOTE
“As the Jewish community in Vaughan and around the world prepares to welcome the beginning of Chanukah, we are reminded of the importance of faith and that good will defeat evil. And while it is a time for celebration, many of our Jewish residents continue to mourn. We recently marked the one-year anniversary of the Hamas attacks on Israel. One year later, and too much antisemitism and Jew hatred have been brazenly displayed here in Canada and around the world. The true meaning of Chanukah is perhaps more important now than ever. It is a time for Jewish residents to reaffirm their commitment to their faith while we all stand strong against injustice in our world. As Mayor, I will continue to do everything in my power to ensure that our Jewish and Israeli residents are safe and feel safe at all times. This year, the City proudly installed the Vaughan Gateway Sign and Menorah at City Hall. This new Menorah will serve as the centrepiece for our Chanukah celebrations for many years to come. I hope you will join us at City Hall on Monday, Dec. 30 as we light this new Menorah for the first time together. On behalf of the City of Vaughan, I want to wish everyone celebrating a safe, peaceful and happy Chanukah. Chag Chanukah Sameach!”
- Mayor Steven Del Duca
