Vaughan wins 2023 Canadian HR Award for Most Effective Recruitment Strategy!
The City of Vaughan’s greatest resource is its staff – and the City employs best practices to attract and retain high-quality talent. And our efforts are being noticed! Recently, the City won a 2023 Canadian HR Award in the Most Effective Recruitment Strategy category. This achievement was celebrated at the Tuesday, Oct. 17 Committee of the Whole (2) meeting by Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council during a special ceremonial presentation.

This Friday, Oct. 20 is a PA Day – do your kids have plans? Don’t worry, the City of Vaughan has you covered! Join us to honour and remember our veterans on Nov. 1
Every November, the City of Vaughan hosts a Remembrance event to commemorate the brave Canadians who risked – and, in many cases, lost – their lives during times of war, conflict and peace.
This year’s commemoration will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. at Vaughan City Hall (2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.). You are invited to attend and join Mayor Steven Del Duca, Members of Council, City staff and veterans to honour and remember Canadian service members, past and present.
On now: weekly leaf and yard waste collection
Got leaves? We’re coming for them! The City of Vaughan is now collecting leaf and yard waste every week, no matter your zone, on your scheduled collection day until the week of Dec. 5.
Keep in mind, due to the higher volumes of materials in the fall, there may be pickup delays this season. If this happens, leave your waste out until it’s collected.
Waste Reduction Week is here!
There is no better time than during Waste Reduction Week to start reducing, reusing and recycling! The City of Vaughan proclaims Waste Reduction Week annually to encourage you to adopt waste-less habits and educate everyone on our collective responsibility to the planet to cut down on what’s sent to landfills.
The week runs from Monday, Oct. 16 to Sunday, Oct. 22 with a waste-related theme each day to promote different ways we can all help advance a circular economy:

Construction resumes at Gallanough Park!
Good news for Ward 5 – the construction at Gallanough Park is proceeding!
The City of Vaughan has a new contractor on board to complete the Gallanough Park Stormwater Management Improvements Project, which is expected to wrap up by summer 2024.
What not to flush
You may think you can flush just about anything down the toilet, so long as it doesn’t clog the bowl. But did you know the City of Vaughan’s sanitary sewer system is not designed to dispose of anything beyond human waste, toilet paper and wastewater? Flushing other materials down your drains can cause damage or plumbing blockages, which can be costly to clean and repair.
Here are some reminders for what items not to flush and where to dispose of them instead.
