City of Vaughan focuses on citizen safety during storm response

Since the onset of our operations, weather conditions continuously shifted between ice pellets, snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain, which made the effectiveness of operations to tackle this storm challenging. Staff will continue to monitor weather forecasts and make the necessary decisions and adjustments to operations, including considering plowing.
 
Residents have asked why the City of Vaughan did not plow during this storm.

Laura Mirabella assumes new role effective June 20, 2018
 
Following four successful years with the City of Vaughan, Ms. Laura Mirabella, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and City Treasurer, will join the Regional Municipality of York as the new Commissioner, Finance and Regional Treasurer. Her last day at the City will be June 19.
 
Ms. Mirabella first began with the City in September of 2014 as Director, Financial Planning and Analytics. In this role, Ms.

Vaughan Fire Chief Larry Bentley announces retirement

The City of Vaughan’s Fire Chief Larry Bentley is retiring after more than 38 years of exceptional public service. His last day as Vaughan’s Fire Chief will be May 31, 2018.

Chief Bentley is a seasoned veteran of the Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service (VFRS). After joining the VFRS in 1979, Chief Bentley was promoted to the rank of captain in 1990, platoon chief in 1996, deputy fire chief in 2006 and fire chief in 2013.
