Vaughan Surpasses Mayor Bevilacqua's Pledge For Residents To Lose 100,000 Pounds
Vaughan residents rang in the new year 100,177 pounds lighter as part of their collective pledge to the CBC's Live Right Now initiative – a national program intended to motivate Canadians to unite and improve the health of the country – which ended December 31, 2011. Residents had six months to determine their weight loss goals beginning in June. Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua pledged that Vaughan residents would lose 100,000 pounds collectively.
Public Meeting to Discuss City Budgets on Monday, January 16

City of Vaughan Celebrates Chanukah with Menorah Lighting Ceremony
Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council joined residents, guests and City staff on Tuesday, December 20 at Vaughan City Hall in a special ceremony to celebrate Chanukah with the lighting of the menorah.
City of Vaughan 2011 Festive Season Closure
Vaughan City Hall and the Joint Operations Centre will be closed for the festive break from Friday, December 23 at noon to Monday, January 2, inclusive. Offices will reopen on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.
City Of Vaughan Celebrates Success Of Second Annual Toy Drive
Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council are thanking residents, local businesses, schools and City staff for donating toys to the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish 2011 program.
“I am overjoyed by the outpouring of community support for our second annual toy drive,” said Mayor Bevilacqua. “We have surpassed our goal of 5,000 toys. I want to thank everyone for becoming involved and helping to put smiles on the faces of so many children on Christmas Day.
Family Friendly Holiday Activities At Vaughan Community Centres Available
The City of Vaughan is offering family friendly, drop-in leisure activities at community centres across Vaughan during the holiday break from December 24, 2011 to January 8, 2012.
Free recreational skating, sponsored by Tim Hortons, is available at Al Palladini, Garnet A. Williams and Maple arenas. Free, supervised skate time is also offered at the City’s outdoor rinks.
Removing Barriers: Mayor Bevilacqua Announces $20,000 Donation to RecAssist Program
Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua has announced that $20,000 from the money raised this year at the Mayor’s Gala and the Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua Annual Charity Golf Classic will be given to the City’s RecAssist fee assistance program.
Vaughan's Corporate Structure Review Positions The City For The Future
Vaughan Council has approved the key recommendations in a corporate structure review report entitled “Taking it to the Next Level.” The proposed changes to the municipality’s administrative structure will be funded without an increase in the City’s 2012 operating budget.
“The measures approved by Council will help the City achieve greater operating efficiencies, promote innovation and enhance productivity,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua.
Vaughan Sets New Record Raising Funds for United Way of York Region
The City of Vaughan has presented a record-breaking cheque to the United Way of York Region. In a special presentation at this week’s Council meeting, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council presented a cheque to Daniele Zanotti, Chief Executive Officer of the United Way in the amount of $73,136.38.
In addition, the Mayor has made a commitment to donate a further $15,000 from the money raised this year at the Mayor’s Gala and the Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua Annual Charity Golf Classic. Another $1,030 was raised by the Pierre Berton Resources Library.
