City Of Vaughan Celebrates Success Of Second Annual Toy Drive

Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council are thanking residents, local businesses, schools and City staff for donating toys to the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish 2011 program.
 
“I am overjoyed by the outpouring of community support for our second annual toy drive,” said Mayor Bevilacqua. “We have surpassed our goal of 5,000 toys. I want to thank everyone for becoming involved and helping to put smiles on the faces of so many children on Christmas Day.

Family Friendly Holiday Activities At Vaughan Community Centres Available

​The City of Vaughan is offering family friendly, drop-in leisure activities at community centres across Vaughan during the holiday break from December 24, 2011 to January 8, 2012.
 
Free recreational skating, sponsored by Tim Hortons, is available at Al Palladini, Garnet A. Williams and Maple arenas. Free, supervised skate time is also offered at the City’s outdoor rinks.

Vaughan's Corporate Structure Review Positions The City For The Future

​Vaughan Council has approved the key recommendations in a corporate structure review report entitled “Taking it to the Next Level.” The proposed changes to the municipality’s administrative structure will be funded without an increase in the City’s 2012 operating budget.
 
“The measures approved by Council will help the City achieve greater operating efficiencies, promote innovation and enhance productivity,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “As the City of Vaughan transforms into a major urban centre in the GTA, we will work diligently to position the City for the future.

Vaughan Sets New Record Raising Funds for United Way of York Region

​The City of Vaughan has presented a record-breaking cheque to the United Way of York Region. In a special presentation at this week’s Council meeting, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council presented a cheque to Daniele Zanotti, Chief Executive Officer of the United Way in the amount of $73,136.38.

In addition, the Mayor has made a commitment to donate a further $15,000 from the money raised this year at the Mayor’s Gala and the Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua Annual Charity Golf Classic. Another $1,030 was raised by the Pierre Berton Resources Library.

Vaughan Recognized as Leader for Implementing Local System to Resolve Parking Ticket Disputes

​The City of Vaughan has been cited as a leading example of a municipality implementing a local system for residents to appeal provincial parking and licensing offences by the Law Commission of Ontario. In its recent Modernization of the Provincial Offences Act report, the Commission recommends the wider use of Administrative Monetary Penalties, noting that Vaughan is one of only two municipalities to implement such a system for enforcing parking by-laws.

Public Meeting to Discuss 2012-2014 Budget on Monday, November 28

​The City of Vaughan’s Finance and Administration Committee will be discussing items relating to the 2012-2014 budget at an evening meeting on Monday, November 28. The public is invited to attend.

The meeting will be held at Vaughan City Hall, 2141 Major Mackenzie Dr., in Committee Room 242/243 from 7 to 10 p.m.  On the agenda is the Draft 2012 Capital Budget and 2013 Capital Budget Plan. A second evening meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 13.
