On Sunday, January 29, 2012, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council joined the Federation of Chinese Canadians in York Region (FCCYR), special guests and residents at Vaughan City Hall to celebrate the Chinese New Year and welcome the Year of Dragon.

​The City of Vaughan received the 2011 Community Campaign Spirit Award from the United Way of York Region at an event held recently.

More than 20,000 donors, 2,000 volunteers and 250 businesses in York Region came together to raise $8.18 million for the 2011 fundraising campaign, a one per cent increase over 2010.

​The City of Vaughan is inviting everyone to enjoy some frosty fun at its 23rd annual Winterfest. This fun-filled family event takes place on Sunday, February 5, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the North Thornhill Community Centre. Winterfest is presented by TD and the event sponsor CN.

Residents are invited to celebrate, learn and be inspired by Black Canadian cultural heritage, traditions and achievements at free events to be held during Black History Month in February. The events have been organized by local African Caribbean cultural groups with the City of Vaughan in support of the City’s Diversity Strategy to create opportunities for creative cultural expression and dialogue.

​In his second annual address at the Mayor’s Luncheon hosted by the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua said Vaughan is the place to be for business growth, innovation and prosperity.

​The City of Vaughan continues to attract new investment, surpassing the billion dollar mark in issued building permits for the sixth consecutive year. 

The City of Vaughan’s 2012 Spring & Summer Recreation Guide will be delivered to Vaughan homes by January 31.

The City of Vaughan has partnered with the Federation of Chinese Canadians in York Region to host a special Chinese New Year celebration on Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 12:00 (noon) to 2:00 p.m. at Vaughan City Hall.

Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council invite residents, community groups, businesses and City staff to take part in the festivities welcoming the Year of the Dragon.

Ward 5 resident Bob Bak was presented with the Civic Hero Award today in Vaughan Council Chambers for his community involvement.

Vaughan residents rang in the new year 100,177 pounds lighter as part of their collective pledge to the CBC's Live Right Now initiative – a national program intended to motivate Canadians to unite and improve the health of the country – which ended December 31, 2011. Residents had six months to determine their weight loss goals beginning in June. Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua pledged that Vaughan residents would lose 100,000 pounds collectively.
